Latimer Hames, The Ratcatcher

Having been abandoned by his parents as a young child in Paris, the London born Latimer was forced onto the streets by a necessity for survival. He was hired in 1848 by the current managers of the Opera Populaire, Debienne and Poligny, who promised to pay him a monthly salary if he were to keep the rodent population within the theatre at bay. This was a relatively comfortable position for the destitute Latimer, who soon became accustomed to life lived in the catacombs of the theatre. However, a change in management, seen to that he was forgotten and his salary eventually became non-existent. But all was not lost for the man, for it was through this frustration that he fell into the careful and lenient hands of his first and only master, Erik Destler; The Phantom of the Opera, who desired that he keep the rats at bay, in return for a monthly wage and food - eventually disclosing the reason behind this to the acceptant elder man.

Over the years, Latimer forms a bond with his master who he finds is also growing fond of having him about, allowing him to tend to him in more ways than first agreed, until he becomes something short of a house servant. The bond that is between Latimer and his atypical master is a close one, based strongly on trust, loyalty and friendship in their shared darkness. Little do both of them know until the moment of parting - that the darkness can be utterly devastating when one finds himself without his long-time companion.

Raoul De Chagney

Appearing in the second part of the series as Christine's would-be suitor, Raoul comes across at first as the charming young gentleman with all the morals of an aristocratic upbringing. He notices Christine during the Gala performance of Hannibal and is immediately besotted by her womanly appearance (having not seen her since their childhood in Perros) and her angelic voice. At first he is successful in winning the young singer over when she turns to him for comfort after she feels her Angel has betrayed her - but time and maturity find her unable to love him and it is this which changes Raoul forever. Driven by the same bitter jealousy as his rival, Erik, Raoul finds himself pitting against a dangerous enemy in a bid to win back the heart of his wandering belle and is determined against all odds to have her love him, even if that means against her own will.

Thaodric de Castelot-Barberac

A long time friend of Raoul de Chagney's and husband to Meg Giry, Thaodric is a man of his class a narcissistic, arrogant and prejudiced towards those he does not understand. He is often found congregating in male circles, smoking a cigar and enjoying a glass of wine. Not know as a particularly violent man, it could be said that he tries his best to abstain from fighting, except when situation calls for it. He is a delicate gentleman with many faults of character, but who is highly aware of the difference between right and wrong.

Peter Hutchens

Peter, a young American cellist of the Populaire orchestra, made a brief appearance in the second part as Ember's love interest and (ambiguous) boyfriend. They shared a brief but endearing spell of time together, forming a deep bond. Tragically, this is cut short, when Peter is killed in the Great Fire of 1869.

Anita Sorelli

Anita began her life in the theatre as a young student of the corps de ballet and by her sixteenth year had obtained the role of Prima Ballerina in the Opera Populaire, under the tuition of Antoinette Giry. It was in the theatre that she met her soulmate and future husband, Gabriel Dafayer, whom she married soon afterwards. After her marriage she still continued to perform at her husband joyous request and can often be found practicing on the stage after rehearsals.
