Brief History
A lot of conspiracy surrounds the Doctor’s past, as to his creation and his origins. Born, unlike others of his kind, with a bellybutton, The Doctor was often bullied viciously as a boy alongside his best friend and eventual enemy Koschei Oakdown (who would later become the Master). The truth behind his past is quite vague but he recounts the truth behind it himself later in Season Four of Elemental. He was born, Theta Sigma, the Second son to Celesia and Quences Lungbarrow in the 4469th Year Rassilon Age on Gallifrey. Unlike other’s of his kind (due a curse put on the Time Lords by the previous Age of the Pythia) The Doctor was conceived naturally, due to his mother being half human. The pregnancy was a long hard one for Celesia as her Time Lady half was constantly under the pressure of the Curse to miscarry. She eventually gave birth to the baby boy after going full term but tragically the pressure that the pregnancy put on her body cost her, her life. Horrified by the prospect of being targeted by the Time Lord Council for an illegal birthing, some of the Household Cousins wanted to destroy the child rather than suffer the scrutiny. His father, Quences would have none of it and it was suggested that the child would be put in the Looms (the regular way of birthing for Time Lords), his age accelerated and it would be made to seem as though he was born from the Loom. This process had some lasting effects on the boy, genetically enhancing his brain and making him something of a child prodigy and much to the dismay of the other cousins, a favourite of his father. As a boy, The Doctor was easily bored and wild, never yielding to authority and forever causing mischief. He often spoke of things he had never seen as if it was simply pre-programmed into his mind and he always expressed a desire to travel in space and time. It would be many years later after he had long graduated from the Time Academy, and many failed attempts at his driving test that he would meet and rescue his faithful TARDIS and begin his journey’s through time and space. During the Great Time War, he fought on the frontlines for the sake of all Creation but in the end, he had to sacrifice everything to save the universe. After his wife and daughter were murdered by an enemy Dalek, The Doctor was so enraged and grief-stricken that he destroyed his home planet, wiping out the Daleks, but also his own people, a thing he has never forgiven himself for to this very day. By the time the Doctor arrives in 2044, he is in his 10th incarnation, and has been travelling for more than 900 years. By this stage, he is a lonely sort of figure having lost many companions to time and his way of life, including Rose Tyler, the one woman he believed, after the death of his wife could fill the emptiness inside his soul. Despite his lonely lifestyle he never frowns and always believes that he will fight the god fight until the end of his life.
Character Personality
Although his personality changes with every regeneration, his current incarnation has been described as manic, bursting with energy and highly eccentric. Yet behind this façade however there is a gentle, loving man who would die for those he cares about. He has many facades to him, including a dark and passionate anger which can sometimes consume him. As Donna Noble always said to him; “You need someone to stop you”.
